A guinomi is one of the traditional Japanese sake vessels. It is slightly larger than an ochoko and is characterized by its greater freedom in shape and design. While it is used as a vessel for enjoying sake, it is also appreciated as a small work of art, admired for its beauty of form, the expression of its glaze, and the craftsmanship of its maker.
White Bizen Ware
”White bizen” was popular during the Edo period. It was made from white clay containing various components mined in Japan.
Fujita Syo uses pure white ceramic stones which excavated 156 meters underground from a mine in the Mitsuishi district of Bizen City,and makes unglazed fired ware.
The new White Bizen has high light transmittance. So it is created very transparently beautiful.
To preserve its pure white appearance, this piece is fired under a protective cover in the kiln, shielding it from falling ash.
This process enhances the clarity and brightness of its white finish.

白備前
江戸時代中期、時代が有田焼や瀬戸焼などの釉薬をかけた器に傾き、土味を押し出した備前焼は不振となった。そのため備前でも白い器を制作しようと、宝永7年(1710年)、岡山藩の命により、木村興楽園の初代長十郎が磁器制作研究のため肥前へ赴き技術を学び、正徳2年(1712年)には白備前の値段が設定され、岡山藩以外への販売を禁止する申し渡しが出されたとの記述が残っている。（参考：目賀正明著『備前陶史』）
白土をそのまま焼成、もしくは釉薬をかけて焼成することで生まれた白備前は、かつての備前焼のイメージとは真逆で、特異な存在であり「幻の備前焼」と呼ばれることもある。採取量が少ない白土を用いるため、現存する作品自体が大変貴重で、現在では白備前を作る作家はごく少数である。
白備前を生み出すには、鉄分の少ない、白土が欠かせない。
しかし、手に入れるのは容易ではない。
そんな折、備前市三石にある鉱山の、地下156mから掘り出された純度の高い陶石に触れる機会を得た。土橋鉱山という地元企業が近年になってようやく掘り当てた、白色軟質の鉱石だ。光も電波も届かない深い地底で、現代の高度な採掘技術があってこそ、こうして手に入れることができたのだ。
私は、真っ白なその石の粉末を練り上げ、一つひとつ丁寧に成形し、無釉焼き締めにした。すると、光を照射すると柔らかく透けて見えるほど高い透過性を持ち、まるで海上に鎮座する氷山のように、凛とした美しさを持った白備前が生まれた。素材の持つ表情から、自然の中で毎秒形を変える儚さと、険しく切り立った力強くさを併せ持つ氷山や、滑らかに、静かに佇む液体などを意し、成形。採掘され尽くしたかに思えた備前土であったが、今なおさらなる可能性を秘めているのだと、土の豊かさに感服した。
江戸時代、起死回生を図った備前焼陶工と岡山藩が腐らず、諦めず、心血注いだ白備前。明治〜昭和を駆け抜けた細工物の名手、三村陶景が自身の作品で意欲的に用いた白備前。先人たちの”白”へ敬意を払いつつ、今、新たな形で蘇らせようとしている。
